Kama'aina Day @ Iolani Palace.🏰

We all have been to Iolani Palace several times prior, but this is the 1st time we got to go in - FOR FREE (palace tour)! Regular admission was about $40/person to get into the palace so we were always just wondering in the garden area.  Not this time.

To be frank - we were disappointed on how few people there were.  Got there about 8:20 am and we were about 60'ish people in the line up, when they were giving away 500 free tickets.  Granted, the queue got up to about 100+ people by 8:30 am but not all of the people were there for the free admission; it's only for the Kama'aina and some were very obvious tourists.  By the time we left at around 11:00 am, I would guess that there were still less than 500 people for the tour.  Even for the garden events (no need for free tickets), I would guess some 300-400 people at most!

The palace itself was actually very small!  I've been to ⛪️ and 🏡 that were a lot larger than this.  Most of what we saw were restoration, as the original palace's contents were destroyed by termites and ants.  The only remaining original part was the staircase, which we could actually see the damages too.  2 things that the kids were quite excited to see - the stinky toilet from over 100 years ago, and the telephone...just kidding!  As I said previously, they were already destroyed and the ones we saw were just restorations.

It really stinks 🤮
