[Updated with images] SPAM JAM & Hawaii Toys & Comics Expo
But before we got into that, what else did we do in April? 🤔
Hanauma Bay again, of course! We went a 2nd trip right after GF and it was all right. Basically nice weather but kids wanted to do more sand castle and exploring of the bay this time.
Keko'a has been getting more into schools here and he volunteered at school this weekend - clean up day. It was supposed to be a couple of weeks ago (weekend after Easter) but it was postponed. Ma'e Ma'e? Well she got a lot of friends now, but anything to use her strength...nah!
SPAM Jam (last day) and HTCE were both on May 1st. SJ at Royal Hawaiian Center was such a disappointment to us because we specifically made the trip there after going to HTCE. There was only 1 booth - and it's a small booth. Merchandise being sold were T-shirts, stationeries, tote bag (yes, singular, as in 1 type), cups, etc. 1/2 of those T-shirts were from 2018/19, and the organizers actually dared to charge $10 for those (with a crossed out $20). 2022 ones were $25. There was 0 SPAM plushies or collectible, and only after a while (we walked by the booth, checked things out, went to Waikiki Beach, then walked back past the booth again as it's on the way to go to our cube) were we lucky enough to snap an image with the SPAM mascot. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. I wonder what it was like when the event happened at International Market Place...?🤔
As for HTCE, it's at Ala Moana Hotel next to the shopping center. We weren't exactly sure of the parking situation (we asked) so we parked outside of Macy's, which was right next to the hotel. And that's how I found the Barnes & Noble in AMSC. Anyhow, admission was $6 a pop so only kids and mama went in (and again, that's how I found B&N). Suffice to say, quite some 💸💸💸 for Pokemon cards and Hot Wheels. Keko'a really missed Serramonte Mall's toy show and he felt that this show was much smaller (and not free) with merchandise not as "treasure" as SM. However, he would still come again next year as there's not that many choices here in the island. Ma'e Ma'e super happy though because she got exactly what she wanted (Pokemon cards). I wasn't sure what caused Ma'e Ma'e to get into Pokemon again...🤔
Since we went to RHC for SPAM Jam, we had lunch at THW - again (mama and I came just few days ago) and to my confirmation, Keko'a was allergic to something in the food. However, THW's Michelin Star meant that Keko'a wanted to come again despite his allergy. "I'll just take the pill next time beforehand," he said.
Rennovation was still ongoing, and it's starting to fall behind. Contractors have another job and it seemed that they were having problems to split their workers...we've already started getting consultation for shades through Costco and would make a decision this week (we already made the decision so it's just contract signing). SunRun has already come for site inspection so we were going to wait for the actual work to begin (contracts already signed).
Oh, most importantly, we finally have the cube fixed (aftermath of the rodent issue - that body shop in San Carlos, CA did a really bad job putting our cube back so the side skirt and passenger front fender were coming off!) and have been enjoying driving it! Yay 👍🏻🤙🏻🎉
P.S. Went to Pearlridge Center in late April. It's the largest indoor shopping mall in HI (still very small, especially compare to Ala Moana Center, which is a open space mall), and we're surprised to see that - to us new Kama'aina - RDI. Order lunch there but the one in Kapahulu is better...🤤
