Round the island shave ice 🍧 test! (w/ edit)

It's the last day of Spring Break 2022.  Here in HI SB is a week earlier than BRSSD (but same time as the rest of US!).  We were - I was - planning a trip to Ka'anapali Beach for some R&R...on another 🏖🤣 but kids rejected that idea due to Roblox...it would have been cheap since Ka'amaina rate for KBH 🏨 was $209/night, and 🛩 was less than $80/person RT.

Since that idea didn't fly, I planned a round the island trip to taste the 3 most famous 🍧 in Oahu: Wiaola, Matsumoto and Shimazu.  I saw this on a YouTube channel as these 3 were thought of "da best" in Oahu.  We haven't really tried Uncle Clay's, which is actually very close by in Aina Hina (so we'll go another day), but that's deemed to be an honorable mention like Kokonut, which means, very good but not "da best" in the 🏝.

I'll make this quick and short, because this isn't a YouTube channel, and I personally don't care much about the 3 except they were ALL very 🤤👍🏻.  Ratings were from Keko'a and Ma'e Ma'e.  Ranking from Ma'e Ma'e.

The 1st one we tried was Waiola (Kapahulu).  K: VERY GOOD, I like it.  M: Texture the best, but lack flavors.  Not that good.

The 2nd one was far in North Shore Haleiwa - Matsumoto.  K:  VERY GOOD, I like it.  I like the 📱X case (for $1; clearance from $25) and the Matsumoto guy magnet ($1 clearance) and the Whaler's General Store Snoopy Tokyo Olympic 2020 magnet ($3, clearance from $7) - 🤔 if this is the only WGS left on Oahu?  M: Texture a lot rougher (than Waiola) but flavors a lot better.  I only want the penny souvenir (50¢ + 1¢).

Finally, Shimazu on Kapahulu Ave close to Waiola.  (Small size because it's out of Larry's size)  K:  VERY GOOD, I like it too, but dad, could you eat the rest for me (about 20% left).  M:  Texture is on par with Matsumoto but not as good.  Flavor is actually better even than Matsumoto.  Dad, could you eat the rest for me, too (30% left)?

🥁 🙏🏻 ...

1.  Hee Fat in Kapa'a, Kauai

2.  Kokonut in Hawaii Kai, Oahu

3.  Shimazu in Kapahulu, Oahu

4.  Matsumoto in Haleiwa, Oahu (North Shore)

5.  Waiola in Kapahulu, Oahu

(All Ma'e Ma'e own ranking)

We actually purchased our meal too right next to Shimazu, because it shared a mini-kitchen with Rainbow Drive-Inn.  In fact, the main kitchen was right next to Shimazu but a separate building.  Price was good with most food between $9 to $10.  Taste wise, all 3 of us (M, K, WWDLTKS) felt that Fat Boys better as RDI was more on the bland side.  (Beef Stew, Mixed Plate, Fried Saimin and Pork Cutlet were what we ordered.)

When we're at Waiola, we also visited the famous Leonard's Bakery (not the Malasada food trucks).  We're lucky with no lineup, because there was one of more than 10 people AFTER we'd purchased our Malasada - Pineapple and Guava.  I didn't know if the store price was higher or not, but it was $2 for the creme filled Malasada compared to $1.80 at the trucks.  Then again, there's no pineapple or guava flavors at the food truck.  The other thing was that we didn't get any discount despite the presence of Leonard the boss...LB was only 1 minute walk away from Wiaola in Kapahulu by the way.  Oh, we also bought the sweet break and it was quite good; then again, it's been a long time since we'd sweet bread so may be it wasn't too good.  Most other pastries were sold out so the sweet bread was the only thing we could buy, in addition to the malasadas.

With SB coming to a close, we spent the weekend locally, as in swimming and shopping in E. Honolulu.  Now we're looking at the next break, but Keko'a will most likely be enrolled in summer school (HS) for 9th grade in Kaiser to get a head start...

[Edit: forgot to mention that we also visited Ala Moana Center on Thursday.  We had lunch there with kids having 🍜 Bario - there's coupon - and adults having SingMaTei 🤤 (Look Fun, Fried 🐔and a curry noodle).  Went there because Keko'a had a severe allergic reaction after having dim sum lunch at Jade Dynasty couple of weeks ago so we had to cut our visit way short last time.  We went again so that we could check out all the stores there.  We also had 🍜 at a ramen place in Kamuki - kids like it, but I'm meh with it.]

P.S.  War in Ukraine is still on-going.  Putin really stinks 🤮 and hopefully, someone will step up to wipe this 💩 from 🌏.
