San Jose Kelley Park + Japanese Friendship Garden + History Museum
It must have been almost 10 years ago since we last visited this place, when both Ma'e Ma'e and Keko'a were toddlers. We went there AFTER our visit to the nearby Walmart - less than 2 minutes away - so that I could say, "we didn't go to San Jose JUST to go to Walmart."
The reason why we went to Walmart this time wasn't because of Hot Wheels, but because of mountain bikes. Walmart's own website showed 2 clearance bike with only 1 left each in the 777 Story Road location, one was marked down from ~$200 to ~$100 while the other from $329 to $59 (this was the one I wanted in addition to the Genesis Abstract that I just got from Walmart.com, for Keko'a when he's older). Worker there said that there should be 2 left per her in store inventory system (the one I wanted; 0 for the ~$100 bike), but all the bikes were stored at the back corner of the outdoor gardening section. Both she and I tried to look for them but to no available. I'm guessing that there must be an indoor storage where these 2 bikes were stored, because I couldn't locate this worker afterwards!.
After both kids got some Hot Wheels, we went to the nearby park. We actually didn't get into Kelley Park or Happy Hollows (the main part of Kelley Park) since there was no free admission. Our first stop was History Museum (itself really a park, south of Kelley Park, but same area) where we got lucky we free parking right outside (municipal parking all throughout the park for $6, even on Sunday). Homeless loitered around the area too so we pretty much walked around History Museum (park) in a relatively quick pace. There's no homeless inside the park that we saw but it was a large area so they could've hidden somewhere. All the indoor facilities were closed due to Corona virus so no free trolley to ride (with the free souvenir token) this time around.
We then went to Japanese Friendship Garden which was right next to History Museum, in between K.P. and H.M., and it was also a disappointment too. Flooding from rain in 2017 damaged the park's water pond filtration system, which was scheduled to be completed in repairing in 2020, was pushed to some time this year due to C.V. Thus, there's no pond, only tree, so the park wasn't really looking that good. Nevertheless, this visit allowed us to say, we visited all the Japanese gardens in the SFBA.
